2011 Summer Studio Workshops
Culinary Arts
Get in the kitchen and see if you've got what it takes. This workshop will introduce you to basic knife skills, ingredient selection, and regional cooking styles. You'll learn to execute several dishes and develop your own personal interpretation of some classics. Best of all, you'll meet like-minded peers and see if the kitchen might be in your future.
Fashion
Gain a deeper understanding of the world of fashion and sharpen your own design skills in this exciting, collaborative workshop. You'll have an opportunity to develop your eye with lessons in color theory and pattern selection that will change the way you look at trends—from this year, last year, and many years ahead.
Design
Your ideas can go anywhere. Gain a fundamental understanding of the software and techniques used by designers all over the world to create the graphics, brands, and imagery we recognize and interact with daily. This workshop will introduce you to a world that often goes unrecognized—but never unnoticed.
Media Arts
If you're unsure about where your skills fit in the worlds of animation, design, and/or media arts, this is the workshop for you. Gain a fundamental understanding of the various roles involved in the production of long- and short-form animation, as well as the ever-growing world of animation on TV, seen in everything from nightly news broadcasts to live sporting events. You'll leave this workshop knowing what it takes to bring an idea to broadcast or to the Silver Screen.
Photography
Learn to show the world what you see through your lens and gain an understanding of photography's impact on the world as a whole. First, you'll have an opportunity to learn basic techniques from studying great photographers and discovering how they achieved the results they did. Then, you'll head out to get those great shots on your own. This workshop will leave you with a sampling of skills to better capture the world around you.
Please note: Workshops are subject to change. All activities are fully structured and supervised. Mature and respectful behavior is expected at all times.
All workshops are non-credit bearing and do not transfer into any program offered at The Art Institute of Portland.
