Evening activities are scheduled from 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM on Tuesday – Friday.

Tuition must be received by JUNE 1, 2011. Transportation to and from the airport is not included. Housing costs are for a check-in date of June 21, 2011, and a check-out date of June 25, 2011.

Students attending Summer Studio who require housing will be staying at a supervised local hotel. Transportation between the hotel and all activities will be provided.

Our four-day workshops are designed to challenge your creativity in a hands-on, collaborative environment. You’ll work alongside students just like you, use professional-grade technology, and learn from experienced creative professionals.

Meals:

Lunch is included in the cost of registration for all students. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided to those students staying in housing and are included as part of their registration fees.

Housing:

Hotel accommodations are available for out-of-town participants for an additional charge. Each guest will be paired with a Summer Studio roommate and will be supervised by the Summer Studio staff. Students staying at the Ramada Plaza Hotel will need to arrive on Tuesday, June 21.

Award Ceremony:

Family and friends are invited to attend the Summer Studio presentation and awards ceremony, a celebration of student work and accomplishment, on Saturday, June 25 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.

2011 Summer Studio Workshops

ADVERTISING
This workshop offers an introduction to the creative world of advertising. You'll sharpen your thinking skills as you brainstorm innovative marketing strategies for magazines and billboard campaigns in a creative way. See how the advertising professionals think as you take a tour of an advertising agency here in San Diego. This is an ideal course for students who are interested in learning how ad campaigns we see every day are created.

AUDIO PRODUCTION
Are you a singer? Musician? Songwriter? Sound Designer? Learn how the pros make music and sound using Pro Tools and Logic in our beautiful new recording studio.

BAKING & PASTRY
In the Baking & Pastry workshop, you’ll have an opportunity to gain hands-on baking skills. Emphasis is placed on fundamental pastry and bread-baking techniques, in addition to all-purpose baking, desserts, cake decoration, and pastry arts. To complement your culinary techniques, you’ll have an opportunity to learn critical thinking and business essentials.

CULINARY
As our appetite for international cuisine grows, so do the possibilities as a culinary professional. You’ll be introduced to a variety of international recipes and culinary techniques. From Mise en Place to Garde Manger, you’ll experience hands-on what it takes to become a culinary professional.

FASHION DESIGN
In the Fashion Design workshop, you will have an opportunity to learn basic construction standards and techniques as applied to the apparel industry. Become familiar with industrial sewing equipment and its applications. Create a garment using the Trash to Fashion competition as your main inspiration, implementing recycled materials as your fundamental resource.

FASHION MARKETING & MANAGEMENT
You will have the opportunity to learn the basic concepts needed to market and promote a product including target market summary, branding basics, and marketing collateral. Working with fashion design students, you will produce a fashion show for fellow students, family, and friends.

GAME ART & DESIGN/VISUAL & GAME PROGRAMMING:
Take your creativity to the next level. Students will have an opportunity to learn to create a basic game concept and craft a game level of their own using game technology.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
Become a graphic designer in a week. Indulge in the world of art, color, design, imagination, and visual communication. Learn about Graphic Design and Computer Applications to create logo designs, posters, and CD covers.

INTERIOR DESIGN
Students will do research and model making, learn sketch up/CAD, and complete presentation boards. The focus will be on an iconic modern architectural example – The Farnsworth.

MEDIA ARTS & ANIMATION
Learn how to hand-blend drawings, photography, and stop-motion to create pencil tests just like professional animators. You will also have the opportunity to learn digital techniques using Adobe software to give motion and watch your creations come to life. Take your animated creations home with you on your portable flash drive so you can share with your family and friends.

WEB DESIGN & INTERACTIVE MEDIA
Are you into Facebook and other social media? iPhone apps? Combine graphics, sound, text, and images to communicate in this exciting digital environment. See what can happen when your ideas meet technology.
